Richard Durand – In Search Of Sunrise – India
Pin ItAah yes, another year, another ISOS takes its place in the world of music. It has been some time now, since Tiësto himself stepped away from doing these compilations, leaving his fans in complete shock and sadness. Ti€sto has been creating ISOS from the first compilation back in 1999 since recent past. And after he said "No" to the eight part, someone else had to take his place.
The world was in great expectations back then. Lots of internet forums filled with long discussion trees about who will be the next ISOS creator. One day, the big waiting came to an end.
Richard Durand became the "choosen one" for the In Search Of Sunrise series. Thanks to this, Richard gained his fame fastly! ‘ISOS 8‘ was a great and original follow-up to Tiësto’s previous parts. Starting his own radio show (bearing the same title as this series), launching a worldwide tour, he created big expectations about the 9th installment of ISOS.
The year of 2011 came, ‘ISOS 9‘ got released and it seemed to me, that the fans of ISOS got split into two halfs. One half, that got very excited about most of the tracks on this compilation, and the other half, that claimed that Richard Durand isn’t the right DJ for choosing ISOS tracks. I’m proud to say, that I belong to the first half and I really don’t understand why so many people complain about this compilation. Richard did a magnificient job on these two Discs.
Starting it with a intro track from Indian duo Lost Stories brings us directly into the heart of India. Sounds very native, and gets you set perfectly for what’s about to come in the next 2 Discs.
After few tracks, we find ourselves a much awaited collaboration from the first Disc. Zoo Brazil feat. Rasmus Kellerman (just like last year) in a track called "Hold Me Tight". Nice vocal from Rasmus, and of course very deep and proggy sound from Zoo Brazil. It sure sounds differently than last years "There Is Hope".
I must say, that what comes after this collab surely suprised me pleasantly. Beautiful non-vocal tracks by Vennacio, Moonpax, and a stunning vocal track by Saint X feat. Sandel in "Summerlives".
What is absolutely the best track of this compilation? A track from Russian duo, that completely rose in my ranks after hearing their two tracks on ‘ISOS 9‘. Track called "Inflection", produced by no one else than Craving! Beautiful emotional melody, gentle beats. Yes, this is definitely a track for searching a sunrise in the morning.
Followed by very nice tracks from Ren Martens, Czech producer Thomas Coastline, Tom Cloud, or Silence Groove. And of course, Richard Durand himself made a few tracks for this compilation. For example his special ISOS remix on Jonas Steurs’s "Still I Wait", with Jennifer Rene on vocals. Bringing in the typical relaxing sound of Richard’s tracks, makes you dream on when listening.
Verdict
To end this review, I would like to say, that ‘In Search Of Sunrise 9‘ is a compilation of tracks, that needs to be really deep-felt. You need to hear this piece more than once, to truly feel the beauty in these tracks. The only thing I would point out in a bad way, is the selection of the country. It feels more like Italy, Greece, Cyprus to me. Richard Durand is known for making his tracks a bit complicated for some listeners, and it is not different with ‘ISOS 9‘, you must take your time with this, trust me, it’s more than worthy, a must-buy!
