Markus Schulz – Do You Dream? The Remixes

One of the most discussed names of today? Yes, it is Markus Schulz! With 5 albums under his sleeve, ‘Do You Dream? (Remixed)‘ becomes a giant, forming the magical round number 6. The original versions have already given Markus tons of copies sold worldwide, a huge amount of kind messages from his fans, dozens of non-critical reviews and of course a stunning new breath to take his music to even higher levels!

Do You Dream? (Remixed)‘ was a much awaited album by the whole trance scene, and everyone was curious to know who exactly got to remix some of Markus’ masterpieces. The original version of this album, has already been a fairy-tale walk in the sunset. Sounds of Markus Schulz, calming you down, taking your feelings up into the stars, letting you sing along with all the vocal pieces, or ripping your musical soul up, making you scream and plea for more of those non-vocal tracks that became favorite club killers right away after release.

The remixed versions starts off with "Alpha State", nice track in its original form, but now with added emotions brought to it, by nobody else than a man that stands behind the creations of Statica. Yes, ladies & gentleman, Mike Foyle gave unbelieveable emotions to this track, making it very calm, yet energetic by keeping Markus’ sounds intact in some moments of this one.

Waking up from a dream brought by Mike Foyle, you find yourself a vocal, creeping behind our ears, saying "awaaaay, awaay". Yes, it is the vocal of Sir Adrian enslaving you, and making you keep this track on repeat. The spicy duo Cosmic Gate, gave this track a bit of a "sing-at-home" soul. The original makes you scream the vocal all over the crowd at a gig, but this version? Putting the vocals a bit into the backround of the melody, gives it a more calm perspective. Very nice to listen to after a hard day at work.

As the album takes progress, we bump into a slight change in BPM. Heavy beats from the start, followed by melodic but hard synth, makes you bump your head in a party mood. But then? Oh yes, the break down comes, a few pieces of known melody, just before it takes over completely. Raise your hands and sing along, the most beautiful vocal track of the album is here! "Not The Same", in a very beautiful and stunning remix by Carlo Resoort. I thought that the original is a nominee for one of the best tracks of the year, but after hearing this version? I have no doubt that this is the absolute top track of the album.

What took my attention next? When "Surreal" entered my speakers, with Moonbeam on remix duties, and Ana Criado singing with a truly surreal voice. Very dark energy coming out from this remix, something like this is expected from Moonbeam, but I think that this track was made this way far too many times. I did some searching for other remixes of this track and what I found was epic. This remix stands no chance againts all the others. Gai Abutbul and Ken Loi, not famous or known names for me, but what they each did with this song will take you by your heart. Gai selected the more proggy way to remix, reminding me the sound of my favorite Omnia (who also did a remix on this track). On the other hand, Ken took it by the more uplifty end. Higher BPM by bit, lifty melody, but also, letting the vocal to be the most important thing of the track, other artists seem to forget that with this one.

Super8 & Tab also decided to leave their mark on this album and they have been given the greatest of honours. Remixing "Perception" must be a very glorious and summoning moment for any producer that gets asked this. The original is a well known classic by all trancers in the world. I was very curious to see what these will guys come up with. They haven’t let me down, that’s for sure. Bringing a heavier bass line to this track, but yet, keeping the original main contents of the track in tact? Best strategy for this one!

Just when I thought that the album is coming to an end, closing it up slowly, with not so great tunes. The last track of the album, beautifully called "Goodbye", collaborated with Max Graham and the vocals of Jessica Riddle, turned out to be a very big suprise at the end. DNS Project remixed this one very nicely! The first half of the track gets you calmed down by the sweet vocals, and gets you carried away, as the melody slips out to the backround. But after the vocal break down? Jessica’s voice gets followed by a very classical sound of DNS Project, shooting you up from the chair, pressing the volume to maximum levels and pumping your hands into the air like Markus himself is saying the final goodbye to you.

Verdict

I had a really wonderful time listening to this album. Goosebump provoking tracks placed randomly in the album, suprises you, gets you excited, makes you party hard!

What else can I say? Markus Schulz did it again! Only the best artists were chosen to remix these tracks, that’s for sure! MUST BUY!

9/10
