Gareth Emery – Northern Lights Re-Lit

Gareth Emery – Northern Lights Re-Lit

After his hugely successful debut album ‘Northern Lights‘, Gareth Emery has hand picked his favourite producers to remix the album, entitling it ‘Northern Lights Re-Lit‘.

Ashley Wallbridge kicks off the album with his remix of "Arrival" followed by "El Segundo" remixed by Arty and Hardwell’s remix of "Stars" (with Jerome Isma-Ae) with all three opening tracks bettering the originals, adding more energy and a less progressive feel compared to the originals.

John O’Callaghan’s remix hasn’t let Gareth down either. "Too Dark Tonight" is one of my favourite tracks off the original album and John O’Callaghan has given this a real ‘on the beach’ feel and again adding more energy and more of a trance feel compared to the original which has a progressive house touch to it.

Super8 & Tab’s remix of "Citadel" is another banger (can you see the trend yet?) swiftly followed by Dennis Sheperd’s remix of "I Will Be The Same" featuring the vocals of Australian beauty Emma Hewitt which again is just fantastic.

"Into The Light" has been remixed by the man who seems to have been on the trance scene forever, Lange and you know what? It’s huge! Every DJ, no matter how long they’ve been behind the decks should have this as part of their set. You know when the crowd goes mental? Well put this on and that’ll happen.

Lucy Saunders’ female vocals + the master of uplifting trance Daniel Kandi = anthem. My track of the album by an absolute mile. Very much improved on an already great track, this is out of this world. Read what I said about "Into The Light" and times that by 10! Majestic sums it up.

Up next is "Sanctuary" which again features Lucy Saunders is one of THE anthems of 2010, everyone knows it. Giuseppe Ottaviani’s remix makes me want to cry with happiness. If you thought the original was uplifting then listen to this! It’s not only more uplifting but harder too.

The album finishess off with "All Is Now" (with Activa) remixed by Jorn van Deynhoven. Another hard track with a soft melody, as much as it feels like an end of the night kind of track you wouldn’t snub cutting some shapes to it at 2 AM!

The down points are Beltek’s remix of "Full Tilt" where nothing very much is offered, it’s lacking in many areas and doesn’t really better the original. Also Jordan Suckley’s remix of "Global" is a bit of a let down. It’s another track that feels like it’s there to fill in a space.

To conclude. I liked the original album, a lot, but this is just fantastic. It’s better in almost every way possible. Gareth laid down the foundations, the remixers built the house. It’s no exxageration to say this album alone could fill at a whole set in a club, party, wherever. It’s simply one of the best artist albums of the modern trance era.

How can one album be this good? I must have taken a bribe right? If only, I could do with the money! It’s just too good to say much bad about it. Kudos to Gareth Emery and everyone involved, it really is something special.

8.5/10

One of the best progressive albums I have ever heard.
