Cosmic Gate – Back 2 The Future
Pin ItAaah, I’m glad I’ve been able to listen to this album so soon before its official release in January. Cosmic Gate truly deserve many thanks for this "return". They has always been one of my favorite trance projects, so I was very happy when I got a chance to write a review this piece, created by this legendary project. It took me some time, but I gladly founded time for a couple of listens.
Many people are expecting a lot from this "flight to future". And I can say, that they won’t be disappointed. CG’s sound has always been an interesting creation in the trance world, you nearly can’t go wrong with these guys. The whole album is created by 19 nicely remixed tracks, with the fresh sound of today’s dance music.
All of the remixes will have a strange feel on the trancer’s heart. Some of them are very stunning, and filled with great party techy sound, and yet, you can find pretty emotional pieces within these Discs. These combined feelings confused me firstly, but then, after a few more listens, I really started to feel the vibe.
Disc 1 is really something amazing. Classics such as "Exploration Of Space", "Raging" or "Fire Wire", got remixed by great artists like Duderstadt, Rank 1 or got a new flash by CG itself. This whole Disc has been dedicated to complete masters of today’s trance world. I must say, that they all did a great job on every track. The best track from this Disc you ask? Hard to say, everyone has got a bit different taste. But I dare to say, that "Raging", remixed by Duderstadt this time won my heart. Magical voice of Jan Johnston, combined with deep, melodic sound and beats of Duderstadt, create something truly beautiful and heavenly.
On the other hand, I was a bit disappointed with Disc 2. The house sound of names like Like Mike or Robbie Rivera, put a bit of a shade on this second disc. Tracks like "Drums" or "Fire Wire", got destroyed by the unfitting sound of these house producers. I can really talk about a feel of joy and hope, when I saw that names like Arty and Arnej also did their part on this disc, and also Wippenberg did a pretty cool remix of "Fire Wire". But still, Daniel Kandi proves once more, that he can really create a completely godly track. His remix of "Human Beings" just takes you into another dimension. Banging techy sound collabed with a great drop of gentle vocals, and uplifty touch equal into a gigantic, energy remix!
I actually have combined feelings from this "trip to future". Many tracks got a great new touch of present and actual sounds. But, it can hardly outmatch the original versions, the true classics of trance. Every single one of you has to create their own opinion about this album actually, no one can really say how does it feel to listen to it. Mostly because everybody feels different about remixed albums, and of course the many sounds of many DJs and producers that did their part in this.
Conclusion
My opinion is that this album is not as great as it has been told to the world. It surely didn’t beat my expectations. Cosmic Gate’s sound doesn’t need remixes, it’s already very trancy and emotional.
