Andy Moor – Breaking The Silence Volume Two
Pin It‘Breaking The Silence Volume Two‘ is the next installment from English trance master Andy Moor. Having had relative success with volume one along with making a lot of noise mixing the 2010 edition of the famous ‘Trance Nation‘ series, Andy has built up a lot of expectation amongst trance fans.
As everyone does, I looked at the track listing before listening and let’s be honest, it’s not going to blow anyone away. Of course having a lot of lesser known tracks doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad, we all get bored of seeing the same tracks on every other compilation don’t we?
Disc 1
Disc one starts of with a progressive, chilled mood opening with Will Holland’s "Start Again (feat. Jeza)". Often the intro track is a lot softer than the rest of the album but with ‘Breaking The Silence Volumes Two‘ it seems to set the mood for the rest of the first disc.
DNS Project & Fast Distance’s‘ melodic "Kickdown" along with Gofman & Tsukerman’s upbeat "Bliss" and Jason van Wyk’s uplifting remix of Daniel Kandi’s track "Promised" are the stand out tracks, but unfortunatly I found the rest quite monotonous and not offering very much.
Disc 2
Disc two starts off in much the same way, with the first three tracks being very chilled again with very samey melodies and the same clicky beats. Then out of no where Masoud’s "Skyward" hits you with an emotional yet dark track with one of the nicest piano pieces you’re ever likely to hear, a stunning track which begs the question, why isn’t there more like this on the album?
We also get to hear Andy Moor and M.I.K.E. pull together to make one of the highlights of the album with their track "Spirit’s Pulse", picking up the pace a bit whilst giving off a dark moody feel.
Towards the end of the album Fabio XB’s vocal rework of tyDi’s "Half Light (feat. Zygar)", followed by Ben Nicky’s techy "Drizzle" gives the second disc a bit of life, greatly missed on disc one. Ending the album is Spark7 with "Lightness". A track distinguishable from the rest ending on a high note.
Verdict
My conclusion is this. The majority of the first disc is very monotonous and all in all quite disappointing. Andy Moor has proven throughout his career he’s capable of so much more which you can see during the last two-thirds of disc two, which although quite chilled has a lot of unique sounding tracks that are enjoyable to listen to.
You might think I’m being harsh on Andy Moor but when someone has proven to be both a great DJ and producer your expectations rise and unfortunatly he has not lived up to them this time around.
That said, I have heard a lot worse. I’m not going to tell you to make this a must have in your collection but if you have some spare cash then you could do worse.
6.5/10
