Armin van Buuren voted Top DJ of 2008
Friday, November 7, 2008
3,50,000 votes, 167 countries and countless fans – the judgment day of various global jocks has finally been witnessed. DJ Mag Top 100 poll got an overwhelming response from the EDM fans from each and every corner of earth – and the results have been surfaced.
We bated our breaths last year for him, and this year, we once again give it up for Armin van Buuren – the top voted Trance DJ at the DJ Mag poll. His on-stage charm and weekly overdose of trance in his radio show has catapulted him as the leading player of the industry. At number two, Tiësto, like last year has reserved his number two slot this year too. His immense fan-following is what makes him the toughest contender in the top DJ lineup. While Paul van Dyk should be satisfied with his third position, it’s lethal Anjunabeats demigods Above & Beyond who closely followed Mr. PvD at number four. A deserving number six for Ferry Corsten and a brand-new top 10 inhabitant – Markus Schulz making it at number eight, the trance DJs have easily beamed out other genre players in the current polls.
"Each year the poll brings surprises one way or another", says DJ Mag Editor Lesley Wright. "This year’s surprise is the number of new kids breaking through in this popularity poll. It’s a pretty seismic shift and obviously shows that the new generation of clubbers have their own young heroes. It’ll be interesting to see how that goes down with some of the old guard…"
Rising star Andy Moor defined his power at #18 and so did German trance goldmine Kyau & Albert (highest climbers) and Gareth Emery at #22 and #23 respectively. The sound of Lange made him phoenix the polls at #37. However, anticipated entrants Aly & Fila at #31 and DJ Shah shining at #58 had the audiences madly voting for them, after some of their amazing acts in 2007-08. Down further, Cosmic Gate duo would definitely want to rise from #62 to their best next year. Simon Patterson, John O’Callaghan and Sean Tyas had their first-timers in the poll to mark their journey as successful DJs.
