Interview with Aly & Fila
Saturday, August 14, 2010
First off, thanks for providing the world with some unforgettable Egyptian-flavoured trance anthems. From where did the thought of doing ‘Rising Sun’ album arise?
No problem, glad you enjoy our music. We have wanted to do an artist album for a while, its really enjoyable experience because you can be a bit more diverse, we feel the album has a lot of diversity on it.
Now even the remixed version of this album has been announced, what kind of response has this gem of an album generated from across the world?
The album response has been overwhelming, we are so happy that people enjoy listening to the album, massive thanks!
Where have you been touring to promote ‘Rising Sun’, and which of these tours has been the best one?
We have been everywhere from Egypt, Argentina, Chile, Slovakia, Los Angeles, Greece, Holland, Russia, England, Estonia, Cyprus and Turkey with another two months of the album touring to come we will also be heading to India, Bangkok, Taiwan, England again, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Colombia, Czech Republic then finishing in North America. As for best, they have all been brilliant so far!
Okay, can we have some trivia on the album ‘Rising Sun’?
Why did we call the album ‘Rising Sun’? Answers on a postcard to Trance Hub!
The flavour of this album comes from the megalithic production with ‘Philip El Sissi & Senadee – Without You (The Never Knowing)’ – something positively expected from your studio – but we’ve also have some down tempo contributions like "Still" featuring Sue McLaren – what would you tell us about crossing your true genre style – high energy progressive trance music!
We wanted to be able to show other sides to Aly & Fila on the album, which we feel have worked very well, there will also be club mixes of the downtempo tracks.
How did the super anthemic production "Perfect Red" happen with Bjorn Akesson?
Bjorn is great to work with, so much drive and energy, and we feel that both artists combined would produce well a energetic type track and we feel that has happened and the response on the dance floors with this track has been great.
Each and every fan of yours would love to know the chemistry between Aly & Fila. What kind of production expertise do you guys look after, and how do you contribute to a tune?
We both have our own input on each track etc., we bounce off each other in the studio, over the years we are learning all the time on how to improve our production skills.
If you were asked to put whole Egypt in a single tune, how would it sound like?
A very Arabic / mystical track, ancient sounds maybe, a mixture of lots of things.
What is the most important element in a trance track according to you guys, there’s bass line, there’s lead melody and then there’s a break down etc.?
Each element is as important as each other.
How does the world look to you when you both take on the decks, and be the musical messiah of that particular moment?
We love to see people faces, enjoying the music, singing along to the tracks, it’s such an amazing feeling standing behind the decks, we always looking forward to playing.
The trance loving people know Aly & Fila, but they also want to know the inspiration that make them one of the greatest trance duos in the history of EDM!
The biggest inspiration is the fans, we are happy that we can make them happy and enjoy our music and performances. From our early inspirations from the Paul van Dyk to Chicane to The Thrillseekers, our friends and family and management.
How do you envision a perfect gig? (The question may be short, but we would love a detailed explanation!)
A nice flight (no turbulence), a nice movie on plane, a nice drive to hotel, a nice sleep at hotel, nice food, nice shower, then a great party!
You’ve spun in India, and will be doing the same very soon, what vibes did this country & its people give you the last time you played here?
Amazing, such a great experience in each city. They love their trance so much and go crazy, so much energy and positive vibes, loved playing there and so looking forward to this forthcoming ‘Rising Sun’ Album Tour there.
