DEV with Andy Moor

Video interview with Andy Moor

21st October, 2008

India recently saw one of the biggest Trance artists Andy Moor spin live at Mumbai and Hyderabad. While he left the audiences wanting for some more serenaded action, Trance Hub got lucky with the man and captured some of his expressions on camera. DJ Dev threw some randomers before Andy and what followed is now before your eyes.

Ok Andy, welcome to an exclusive interview from Trance Hub dot com.
What vibe did you feel once you landed in India?

What vibe? To get through security, the immigration wouldn't let me in.

What do you do before you start spinning behind the decks?
What do I do before? Normally I try to sleep before.

How long, how many hours sleep do you take?
That just depends what's in there and where I come from.

Aaah ok, say it's like a 4 hour gig you're playing for?
I just try to get my pack, like make sure the whole bunch of tunes are in order; listen to the new tunes over and over again. Run and drink a beer and then get started.

And what are you playing for the Indian audience tonight?
Auum... I don't know, and I've never known until I get to the gig and I don't know what kind of clubbers come to my gig. The best thing to do is to be prepared for everything. You know I am expecting it to be good, I feel many good things about people here.

Of course, we'll give our best. Your recent track "Fake Awake" was a massive hit being hammered by big producers like Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond. So how is your 2008 year gone?
Auum... It started off as me touring, the 1st half of the year I did a lot of touring as they were long tours. So when I came back after the two weeks I had 2 days. So really didn't get much time in the studio. Towards the middle part of the year I spent a lot much time in the studio. So production wise its ok, let's see. I've got a lot of more time parked before that.

DEV shares a joke with Andy.

And how do you take off time from your busy schedule, gigs and like from your events and then from your other side of life? How do you take out time? You are like very busy now?
Well, obviously when you're away, you have to do what you got to do. Once I get back I have to keep balance between everything. Work when I can work and take time about private life as well. Just keep a balance between all.

Are you happy or married?
None of them. Aa... I'm happy, I'm happy.

And which was the last gig that you did?
Auum... last week in Scotland with Armin van Buuren. And, I forgot the name of the place.

How do you feel like playing with Armin van Buuren?
Yeah, its difficult to play after somebody like Armin, obviously he is the big star.

OK, now apart from these regular questions, I'll go for a little bit of rapid fire.
One of the tracks which you feel you would have produced or wished to have produced it?

Probably some of the BT stuff. It's a good question but I cant think right now, will get back to you by post.

A style of Trance that you don't like?
I appreciate all styles. I like to enjoy analyzing them and listening to all the different styles. But I am not really fond of really really fast hard stuffs. For me its just got no groove, nothing. Its just not actual music to me. I always started giving value to what people liked, but then its not my personal taste.

A very embarrassing moment while you are spinning behind your decks?
There've been many.

Any one you can share with us?
Nothing really embarrassing, but its been times when sounds got off. Its been times when I played on the beach and the generator went out of petrol.

And you started your set all over again?
No just finished it. As the petrol station was 10miles or 20miles away.

So right now you are a huge producer and a DJ. You have performed at places all over. So one venue you would like to spin again and again?
Some of them have differences like some of them are big clubs and famous clubs.

The Trance Hub mug we gifted Andy.

Any name? Any?
Like I played in Zouk in Singapore, that's what I liked that club and Amnesia obviously. Some of the small venues like some of the eastern European venues are really small but full of atmosphere, so it's a combination.

A DJ you would like to see perform? Except You.
To be honest, I really don't go to watch DJs like I have been doing it all the time. If I want to do something, I will go and do something completely different.

A part of genre you would like to produce and listen? Apart from Trance?
Mostly down-tempo kind of ambient music. A lot of emotional music, cause when I am traveling I would listen to something more of easy listening, like epic emotional ambient music.

Okay Andy! Thank You for the interview.
