If you were not a DJ/producer, you would be a…

I would be a in the Computer Animation industry ;) working somewhere like Pixar or EA Games or something – I actually got into music by making sound effects and background music for my Short Animation movies, I also love drawing.

If there was no music…

Noooooo, I don’t even want to think about that!! I would have no job! hahaha

Your favourite cuisine…

I love all sorts of food, but my favourites are Japanese, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern food.

What do you like the most in your job?

I love creating new music in the studio… so the idea that first there is silence and then a few hours (or days) later there is a whole new song that never existed before, I find very exciting and rewarding.

Favourite TV show…

I love shows like Modern Family and The Office. And I also love nature documentaries, especially if they are about animals. BBC Blue Planet and Planet Earth are amazing.

Your favourite cartoon…

Hmmm… not really a big cartoon guy to be honest. Which is strange because I love computer animation movies such as Finding Nemo and Up.

Who was your celebrity crush?

I kinda have a thing for Jennifer Anniston, Milla Jovovich and Scarlet Johansson. I like strong woman, but that also are down to earth and have a good sense of humour.

Your most irrational fear…

Needles (injections) and blood tests (because of the needles).

Sunrise or sunset?

Sunrise I only see at some late gigs sometimes when I’m really tired on my way home… So probably sunset. Best time to have a BBQ on a hot summer’s night. ;)

The craziest thing you’ve ever done…

Not sure… I used to do a lot of skateboarding, surfing and stuff like that… and they are sports where you are always sort of testing yourself and pushing yourself. I don’t know if I can think of the craziest thing I’ve EVER done though hahah.. I guess I should go do some more crazy things before I can answer this one.

Your favourite sport and sportsman…

Either Kelly Slater (Surfing), Tony Hawk (Skateboarding) or perhaps Anderson Silva (MMA/UFC). But to be honest I don’t really watch much sport at all… I don’t actually watch much TV.

Book or movie?

Movie. :)

Thank you for your time :)

Last year Solarstone's third longplayer put the proverbial torch to perceptions of what an EDM album should be...

Last year Solarstone’s third longplayer put the proverbial torch to perceptions of what an EDM album should be. Through tracks like "Intravenous", "The Best Way", "Electric Love", "Twisted Wing" and its title track, Richard Mowatt displayed an ever-expanded artistic range. Erasing established genre lines it travelled across previously unmapped musical terrain. Now, a year on, its time to revisit that music. ‘Touchstone’s’ been re-touched!

"Lovin all the mixes. My favourite is the Elfsong mix. HUGE!!" – Armin van Buuren

When approaching the album Richard’s A&R mandate was clear: "In essence I wanted to hear fundamentally different sound-designs for each of the tracks", he says. "No tweaks, revisions or minor modifications. No comfort zones. All-out musical revolution!" With a free hand to take the tracks straight down whichever rabbit hole they saw fit, the radical ‘Touchstone‘ remixing commenced at pace!

By this point switched on Solar-fans have likely locked ears with Elfsong’s remix of the album’s title track. The young Hungarian’s remix of "Touchstone" refuses to trade on the recognition factor of the Original’s longing guitars, instead cultivating the track onto a linear, floor-ready progressive journey. Irish duo Tucandeo meanwhile have swapped-out the breakbeat drum signature of "Ultraviolet" for a 4/4 pattern and used its native synths to create an epic, escalating trancer that rise up to truly dizzying heights.

Throwing the progressive rulebook clean out of the window, Vadim Zhukov has given "Night Signals" a new tightly coiled, high wire tense lead-riff. Onto that he’s transposed a remodelled version of the vocal, giving his rework a numinous, filmic quality. Poland’s Piotro has summoned a career best with his masterful Microprog kit-out of "Electric Love". Starting out canyon-deep, he twitches and glitches Bill McGruddy’s vocals until, mid-break, the remix takes one final, incredible, breath-stealing step over the edge.

Young-gun producer Konektiv has performed a spectacular coup d’état on "Intravenous" beat-free reign. On his Epicentric Remix he’s floor-jacked the track with a sensational Plastikman-esque slow-burning techno churn, marshalling its Pink Floyd-like prog rock guitars into the drop.

Likewise Klauss Goulart has revolutionized the once proggy, Renaissance-esque "Slowmotion" with one of his forceful siren-led 5am floor-whackers. Dennis Sheperd meanwhile recasts "Zeitgeist" with a more pumping drum structure and captivating, ethereal vocals – holding out to deliver a late-in-the-break synth-sonic uprush. Elsewhere fellow German Miss Nine revises "The Best Way To Make Your Dreams Come True Is To Wake Up" into a vibrant, clubby prog-house punch-packing.

The rezoning of sub-genres continues as the album reaches its latter stages. ‘Electronic Architecture‘ alumni Dave Horne turns the once unequivocally drum & bass-housed "Twisted Wing" into a melodic trance odyssey – albeit one with a deceptively powerful production engine. To the greater degree that switch-out is reversed on Royal Sapien’s rework of the Lucia Holm vocaled "The Last Defeat", with the New Yorker underpinning his mix with brisk, Bukem-ized beats.

Bringing the album to its conclusion, Chris Johnson’s let the house drums speak on bliss-fest "There’s A Universe". Taking the Blur-ish vocals of the original, he’s dynamically repoints it (for the first time) in the direction of the dance floor.

With ‘Touchstone Remixed‘ tracking the exact same running order as the original album, fans can anticipate a unique, extra-dimensional listening experience. At once resonant yet entirely metamorphosized, it’s a remix album in the original meaning of the expression. It’s out on the 23rd of January.

Using 27 fresh-from-the-studio tracks, one of the world’s biggest DJs has musically decoded his club capital for 2012. From across the electronic dance spectrum comes thermic audio from the likes of KhoMha, Mr. Pit, Basil O’Glue, Rex Mundi, Elevation vs. Grube & Hovsepian and many others. It also features, exclusively, "Bolandish" – Markus’ incredible new track.

"Schulz clearly demonstrates his native understanding of the floor-attacking, uncompromising trance that holds sway over LA’s clubs and arenas – Album of the Month" – Mixmag

During the last weeks of 2011, via a dedicated video-cast, Markus Schulz revealed that the setting for his 2012 City compilation would be the sprawling electronic dancetropolis of Los Angeles.

On making the announcement, Markus said: "Electronic dance music has blown up huge in the United States this past 12 months. One of the main reasons driving that is the scene in Los Angeles, where a new generation of clubbers are uniting with long-term fans and creating one of the most passionate scenes anywhere on the globe. I’ve played there many times in my career, at the Monster Massive festivals, the Electric Daisy Carnivals and 3 years New Years Eves at Together As One, and they’ve all been so memorable in their own way!"

Following the broadcast Markus began his musical mission to embody the dance-heart of one of the biggest cities on the planet and build a mix testament to it.

As is now the City series’ custom path, ‘LA ’12‘ discs are opened by Markus himself, who infuses each mix with an atmospherically charged overture. Under his San Andreas Soundlab alias, "Hollywood Boulevard" teleports the listener straight down into the early evening thrive of the iconic Tinsel-town sidewalk. As the sun starts to set, the rush of the passing traffic melts into long expectant synth sweeps, which, beat-free, beautifully capture the palpable anticipatory buzz of a long LA night ahead.

Danilo Ercole and Wellenrausch soundtrack this day-to-night transformation with their newest studio wares, "A Man With Two Names" and "Million Miles To Run". Pushing ‘LA ’12‘ further down this potent, progressive freeway, the swirling strains of Nifra "Dark Harbour" and the epically spacious "Hyperfocus" from Mark Otten intoxicate the mix and ratchet its tension. As the tougher sounds begin to filter their way in with ever-greater frequency, so the clubbers pulse quickens. The auditory punch of Beat Service’s "Fortuna" produces a knockout moment, as does the unrestricted uprush of Styller’s striking "Quantum Mechanics". Pushing Mix #1′s mercury conclusively through the roof is the rolling thunder of "Bolandish" – Markus’ latest atom-splitter.

For just a moment Disc 2 drops the drums out with the evocative, echoic 911 wail of "Avalon". Markus’ tribute to the famed Hollywood club, the track plants you right outside its front door. One final glance back up at Capitol Records, etched against LA’s night-black cityscape, and the whooping rush of Arnej’s "We Unite" sucks you into Avalon. From there ‘LA ’12‘ wholeheartedly and vociferously seizes control of your arms and feet. Through the concussive beats, shock-waving synths and digital discordance of tracks like, Elevation vs. Grube & Hovsepian "City Of Angels", KhoMha’s "Artemis", Aaron Camz "Aqwa" and Mr. Pit’s purpose built outro mix of "River Of Hearts", it delivers LA’s pitch-perfect audio expo.
If you’ve not clubbed the city before, this compilation will all-but secure the credentials for you. Capturing the pumped fission and pure passion that put Angelenos’ feet on the floor all-year-round, it makes a compelling a case for the city’s accession to nu electronic dance capital.

The ‘LA ’12′ Launch Gigs:

To mark the release of Markus’ 2012 city-comp, he’ll be taking its music to the legendary LA club, to give clubbers the full, unforgettable and LIVE ‘Los Angeles ’12‘ experience! On Presidents Day weekend in the US, it’ll be the Hollywood club that will play host to two very special parties to celebrate the release of ‘Los Angeles ’12‘. Saturday February 18th is a 21+ event (pre-sales now sold out) with Sunday the 19th being an 18s and over show. Markus says: "It’s going to be extended sets from me alongside some very special guests and it’ll be the first time in my career that I’ve done two back-to-back shows in LA. So get your plane tickets, booked, your hotel rooms reserved and your plans made – it’s going to be an incredible weekend!"

She's always been one of our favorites even before Trance Hub was born. Presenting the vocal goddess herself, Fisher.

Hi Fisher, first of all, you are a Trance Hub favourite. We were really excited when we got the opportunity to interview you. Thank you for giving us this opportunity and to get to know a little more about you… Let’s dive into this interview…

I guess every little girl goes through that phase of wanting to be a singer. I experienced it myself and I’m sure it was the same with you. Was there a special situation or maybe a person that made you say: Yes, I’m going to be a singer and this is the path I want my life to go through?

It wasn’t a phase. I can’t even imagine it being just a phase. I started singing at about 4 or 5 years old and never really stopped. My brother was a very strong influence on my musical education, exposing me to all types of wonderful bands and singers. The most ispirational have been Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, because she has a lower voice like me, and Rickie Lee Jones, because she is such a poet with her lyrics. Of course, one of my favorites, Etta James. You always knew that she truly FELT what she was singing about!

What is your interpretation of the word ‘music’? Take us on a trip.

Music is a melody the flows and moves you physically and emotionally without you even noticing. Add the pulsing of the drums, or the pounding of the bass, or the desperation of the Cello, and everything is just that much more moving. I rarely listen to instrumentals because, without the voice leading the way, the passion is lost for me – there is no guiding light.

Whenever we hear your voice, it’s instantly recognizable and for that moment, we feel there’s no better, what do you have to say about that?

Thank you so much! That has been an asset and a liability for me over the years! When ultra pop voices and high belting ranges are in demand, I get left out in the cold. But when cool people like yourself want a heartfelt emotion, placed inside the package of voicebox, they call me. :)

Not many fans may know Fisher isn’t just you. How was Fisher the band created? What was its original concept?

The core members have always been myself and my husband, Ron Wasserman. I used to go by my full name as a solo artist (with Ron in the wings doing all the hard work!), but when we had our first cut on the soundtrack album for ‘Great Expectations’, the label involved wanted us to come up with something simpler that felt more like a band, so my first name got chopped. It was very confusing to a lot of people… wish we could have come up with something cooler! Hindsight is always 20/20! LOL

Having an own band and working with EDM producers you are balancing between various genres. What are the differences between creating a track for the band and working on an EDM track?

The process isn’t much different. Ron produces all my vocals – everything from trance to Fisher. Ron and I collaborate to write the melody and lyrics for all the EDM projects we work on. There is no dance track out there that I’ve sung on that I haven’t written lyrics for. It’s my policy… unless someone wants to come to me with something that hits me as if I’d written it myself. The main difference is that, after we write the melody & lyric and record the vocal, we send everything off to the DJ/producer, get their approval or notes for changes, and let them have their way with it. Now with Fisher the band, Ron has complete control on the track from conception to final mix.

When selecting to work on a track with a producer what is it that you look for? And how do you select who you want to work with. Is there a criteria to match?

We like to work with people who recognize the importance of a strong melody and aren’t afraid of a certain amount of structure. We come from a pop writing background and feel that structure is an asset to the song – some EDM writers seem to think that structure is the enemy. I say there is more room for expression within the safety of structure. People usually seek us out and present a very basic track for our consideration. If we like what we hear, we check out their stats on Facebook and YouTube; make sure they’re legit, have a following, and have paid their dues in the biz.

Not many genres can boast the fact that a producer and a vocalist can produce a track without even meeting each other. What is your take on this? Positives and negatives!

With the internet, it’s more common than before. The great thing is that we can produce things very quickly. The bad thing is that we never truly connect, so it is more like phone sex… everyone gets satisfied, but nobody really touches.

We all agree, "The Last Time" is Trance Hub’s team favourite track of yours. If you were to make a music video, how would it look?

Like a strange dream where I live my life backwards – near-death to birth… at the very end, I am in God’s hand. God would be played by Sidney Poitier.

If you were to write down your three favourite EDM songs, which one would they be and why?

Southern Sun – Paul Oakenfold: Dreamy, melodic, beautiful.
Hate Is The Killer – Moonbeam: has a real Cirque de Solel vibe about it, and I love the title!
Hold Your Hand – Paul Oakenfold feat. Emiliana Torrini: Love the heaviness of the track, and Emiliana’s Bjork-like delivery.

There is always a healthy debate on this topic – Do you feel vocalists are not given as much limelight as the producers?

Absolutely. The producers/DJs are the ones gigging and getting their faces out there, so by default, the singers get put in the back seat. When I did the video with George Acosta for "True Love", the kids that were there to dance were shocked when I told them that my partner and I were writer’s on the track, and that we’d produced our own vocal and sent it to George without ever having met him. They had a vision of me in George’s studio in Florida, waiting to be told what to do, and following his instructions for my every move. It was highly amusing, but not shocking. When Fisher was touring, Ron got treated the same way. I was out front, so everyone assumed – or fantasized – that I was the genius who did everything, when in fact it was Ron who was the heart and soul of the whole band.

How do you manage your time now that you are a Mom, tell us more about the little one :)

It’s simple. My son comes first. If I have free time, I write and sing. If my son’s at school and there’s nothing to write or sing, I walk the dogs and pet the cats.

How do we see 2012 panning out for Fisher?

It’s one of life’s great mysteries… wouldn’t you rather just wait and see, and enjoy it all as it hits you? :) Thanks for the feature, and be sure to check out my EDM Facebook fan page for all Fisher news & releases.

Simon O’Shine

Sergey Nevone, 20 year old producer from Poland has been making waves with his beautiful uplifting sounds. In 2011 we saw some brilliant productions like "Miss You", "Jasmine" and "Last Goodbye". We were reminded that lovely uplifting trance is still a genre young producers embrace. With massive support from Sean Tyas, Aly & Fila and their record label Future Sounds Of Egypt, Simon’s solo tracks (like "Calm Sea", "Anya", "Last Sunset") and remixes will be availiable soon. We will see Simon O’Shine coming of age in 2012. For people who love the underground uplifting sounds, this man will be your hero in 2012!

1. Can you tell us in your own words how 2011 treated you? What were some highlights? Any disappointments? What kind of a year was it for trance?

2011 was amazing for the both of us! This was definitely our year of immense growth; production, giging, etc. – finishing our artist album, ‘Piercing The Quiet‘, incredible gigs all over the world including the opportunity to play for one of the biggest dance parties in the world, Electronic Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas! I think the only disappointments we have is that there isn’t any more time in this past year to accomplish more, haha! As for the trance genre, although 2011 was probably not the best for the hardcore trance heads, it was incredible for the EDM scene overall. As you may have noticed, a LOT of well known commercial artists have been crossing over into more of the modern dance/trance sound; 4×4 beats are becoming unanimously known, especially all throughout the United States. Overall, we think it’s been a blessing!

What are you most looking forward to in 2012? What big goals do you hope to accomplish? Any secrets you can reveal?

It’s great to think ahead, as each year we’ve always been learning new things and growing within our own sound and it’s really starting to take such great shape! 2012 is going to be fun for us; we have a lot of new, fresh ideas already in the works in the studio, new production methods, studio upgrades, massive gigs lined up, including the Creamfields Tour all throughout Australia and much more. :) We can’t wait for the year to just begin!

What are your top 5 tracks of 2011?

There have been dozens of tracks that we have loved and enjoyed playing in our sets this year! But if we had to select just 5 tracks they’d be:

1. Josh Gabriel with Andain – Promises (Myon & Shane54 Summer Of Love Remix): Incredible, hooky vocal on this one by Andain, amazing work by Josh and what more could you ask for on this dirty, Myon & Shane54 monster remix! Incredible, this was one of the tracks we started out our EDC set with as well. :)

2. Tritonal – Lifted (Mat Zo Remix): Haha okay – we have to say, it’s not like us to just pick one of our own tracks, Mat Zo really took this one home! From set to set and all over the world, we’ve enjoyed playing his remix of this. As a side note, during our show in Korea, nobody spoke a word of English, but they were signing the lyrics to this remix! Memories of a lifetime! Great work, Mat!

3. Above & Beyond – Sun And Moon: When we first heard this single, we were blown away and had it on repeat in the studio weekly! It quickly made it into our sets and inevitably has inspired us. Such a great vocal, amazing cross commercialization of dance/pop – perfect to jump to on stage!

4. Stoneface & Terminal – Rush: These two talented guys really brought fire this year in their music; this definitely made our top 5! Amazing production behind this, incredible energy and so much fun to play in 2011!

5. Rafael Frost – Smash: The feeling of playing this song is unexplainable! The sound design and overall story of this song is utter perfection! In fact, it’s one of our go-to tracks in our sets. ;)

What are your top 3 albums of 2011?

1. ‘Group Therapy‘ by Above & Beyond
2. ‘Wake Your Mind‘ by Cosmic Gate
3. ‘Piercing The Quiet‘ by yours truly (Tritonal)

Lost Stories’ Year In Review

2011 was a great year for Lost Stories, with 3 new releases in the bag and a massive response in India’s top events and clubs. Our latest release, "The Purple Cow" was in the top 15 tracks of Audiojelly, whereas "Roshni" and "All Good Things" have carved niche in ethnic trance area. Garnering major support from Markus Schulz on GDJB, Judge Jules on BBC Radio One amongst others is yet another highlight of this year. On the remix front Lost Stories was featured on Markus Schulz’ ‘Do You Dream – The Remixes‘ and BT’s ‘These Re-Imagined Machines‘ and the prestigious ‘In Search Of Sunrise‘ mix album by Richard Durand.

We enjoyed playing at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, etc, this year.

About Shogun

Going from listening to one of your favorite DJs as a mere fan to becoming one of their go-to remixers might seem like a distant dream for most electronic music producers but it’s the reality for Andrew Chen, aka Shogun. In just a few short years, the American DJ and producer has become a favorite of Armin van Buuren and was the first Asian DJ to be signed to his S107/Armada record label. Currently standing at #122 on the DJ Mag Top 100 list – a massive leap from #231 only one year before – Shogun has firmly cemented himself as one of the world’s top up-and-coming trance & progressive DJs.

In his early years, Andrew was drawn to the industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails, Filter, Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers, but was searching for something that focused more on the beautiful and uplifting melodies that inspired him. After discovering Armin van Buuren and Gouryella in the early 2000s, he knew he had found his musical home. "To me, a great trance track tells a story in the way that a powerful movie can make you want to stand up and cheer, yell or cry. That’s the same feeling I get from trance music", says Andrew.

After his discovery of the genre, Andrew decided to pursue music production full time and his 12-hour days in the studio have paid off. Thanks to his original, powerhouse vocal anthems such as "Skyfire", "Lotus", "Imprisoned" and "Run To My Rescue", Shogun has gained support from the biggest names in the industry, including Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz and Nadia Ali. He’s racked up 5 Future Favorites on A State Of Trance and his original productions are regularly featured on other leading radio shows such as VOYNC Sessions, Trance Around The World, Corsten’s Countdown, and Global DJ Broadcast.

With consistent productions, top quality releases and the DJ skills to rock the best clubs in the world, the future of electronic music is bright with Shogun behind the decks.

With DJ Mag saying: "Durand excels with the first of his ‘Vs. The World’ EPs", his solo track for the EP "Chopstick" is a seismic club-shocker that you’ll be hearing plenty of in his sets over the coming month! Mixmag meanwhile described the EP’s tyDi collab, entitled "Loose Unit" as "working in some great robust riffs and warping, avant-garde piano lines". Richard Durand’s ‘Australia/Asia‘ is out to buy now and available through all good download stores, (the full tracklist is below).

The ending of the year is always so nostalgic, EOYC on radio station AH.FM kicks in and all the DJs & producers are out with the best tracks from their cases. Many compilations get released and simply put, everybody is trying to give out their best!

When I look behind me, on the whole year, my feelings about it are pretty devided. I’ve heard many opinions about 2011 – some call it an amazing year for music, others are saying that it has been a very bad year for trance music (especially). I stand on the edge of these two sides. I’m an optimist and yet I think that it has been a pretty sad year for trance! It could have been much worser. What really happened this year? Many producers changed the way they produce their tracks – some of them in a good way, some of them in a worse way. Let’s start with the bad ones, shall we? Many of these producers betrayed their fans by changing their tracks, but on the other hand, they have earned the attention of new ones. For example Mat Zo and Arty, but I think that no one will dissagree, if I say that Armin Van Buuren is the biggest name of these "traitors". Armin came up with a new album called ‘Mirage‘ last year, and as much as everyone were looking forward to it, everybody got pretty shocked and suprised. ‘Mirage‘ brought a completely new dimension to Armin’s production and the "pop soul" that was breathing on everyone from this album was just something unexpected and sad. Few months after the release (start of 2011), Armin completely changed the meaning of the word "trance". Many people believe that it was in those days (when ‘Mirage‘ got released), when trance started to change. I believe otherwise! I think that this all already started in the moments when Tiësto released his album ‘Kaledioscope‘. Armin has always tried to be like Tiësto, not in tracks or production, but I think that Armin always had a hidden complex against Tiësto, and when Tijs changed the way of his productions back in the day, Armin couldn’t fall behind, could he?

But we shouldn’t get all pessimistic now, should we? Well, many artists got newly, well deserved attention, not only by me! Maor Levi got into the spotlight pretty damn well! He teamed-up with an artist called Bluestone and they made a beautiful connection between trance and a few dubstep elements, called "On Our Own", definitely something worth listening to! This track got its place on Above & Beyond’s compilation ‘Anjunabeats 9‘, and these guys surely didn’t stay behing either. This trio came up with a nice change of pace in 2011, mostly seen on their compilation I’ve mentioned earlier, or in their recent tracks like "Tokyo", "Formula Rosa" and of course we can’t forget about their latest album ‘Group Therapy‘, which is personally my favorite for this year. It’s fascinating to see, how this trio slowed down a bit from their typical uplifting tempo, yet their tracks lost completely no emotions, I even dare to say that they gained some extra emotions to their typical ones. Tracks like "On My Way To Heaven", "Sun & Moon", "Every Little Beat", "Prelude"? There is nothing to point out on those tracks, simply perfect! Somehow, this album perfectly describes my personal year of 2011, full of love, yet full of sadness, tears and sorrow.

The rest of the year got pretty interesting thanks to many more names, I don’t remember a year full of some many releases or albums so far. Unfortunately, not many of them were really great as they were expected to be. But! Some of them really created a satisfied smile on your face. For those of you who like to remember the older times of trance, Orkidea released his album ‘20‘ this year, celebrating his two decades in EDM. Very old-school album, anyone who is listening to trance for few years will surely find his favorites on this one as I did, especially the "Pacifique" track. The next album worth mentioning is surely the remixed version of ‘Do You Dream‘ by Markus Schulz. Many names I haven’t heard about before got mentioned on remix duties of some tracks on this album, and to my suprise, many of these unknown names did a better job than bigger stars. Gal Abutbul and his work on "Surreal"? One of the best progressive tunes of 2011, no doubt! On the more techy side of remixes, Phynn represents the best job with his remix on "Rain", roof-taking track.

And of course, many more artists came a long way this year. Khomha got selected as the coldharbour artist of the year, making a huge leap forward in his career. Ernesto & Bastian got separated recently, and of course, there has been so many tracks from everyone this year, that I could hardly choose to what should I listen sooner. Unfortunately, not all of them were worth listening.

To close this lookback, I would like to say that 2011 has brought a massive change to EDM in all dance music styles. Dubstep surely found it’s way into all other styles, trance slowed down a bit, house became faster and more agressive. Simply said, 2011 brought a big change, good in some ways, bad in other ways. I bet that we all can find our good musical moments in this year, as same as we can find bad ones.

Celebrating his 20th year as a world-class EDM (electronic dance music) DJ/producer, Ferry Corsten delivers his fourth full-length studio album, ‘WKND‘ on February 24. Blinding flashes of brilliance ensue from the first track through to the last, 15 in total including a (iTunes only) bonus track. Tight, punchy and radio-ready, the carefully crafted tracks on ‘WKND‘ are as well-suited for a packed dance floor as they are for afternoon-drive on pop radio.

Pristine. Exhilarating. Epic. These words succinctly describe Ferry Corsten’s music. Celebrating his 20th year as a world-class EDM (electronic dance music) DJ/producer, Ferry Corsten delivers his fourth full-length studio album, ‘WKND‘, on February 24.

Blinding flashes of brilliance ensue from the first track through to the last, 15 in total including a bonus track on the iTunes edition.

Tight, punchy and radio-ready, the carefully crafted tracks on ‘WKND‘ are as well-suited for a packed dance floor as they are for afternoon-drive on pop radio. With this attention to detail, it’s no wonder Ferry Corsten is, today, amongst the most sought-after artists in the world. What Ferry Corsten creates in music is the sound of now… not following any trends in pop/dance radio, but rather setting them.

‘WKND‘ showcases Ferry Corsten’s artistic diversity. From the peak-time festival crowd-pleasers to the radio-ready pop songs and every step in between, Corsten paints with masterful strokes. The result is a collection of meticulously built tunes in perfect keeping with the sound of today.

For die-hard EDM lovers, Corsten delivers a stable of epic, anthemic tracks. From the mainroom-killing "Brute" with fellow superstar, Armin van Buuren, to the punchy "Take Me" and the progressive house track "Don’t Be Afraid" with its enormous build and resounding breakdown, Corsten generates a sense of apocalyptic urgency that’s nonetheless melodic and beautiful. "Sunday"” the iTunes bonus track, is written in a minor chord and is eerily good with its stuttered vocal stabs and warm bass line. Likewise, "WKND", the title track, digs deep with its rumbling bottom and rejoicing synths before exploding with crushing ferocity. Ferry Corsten’s first single release of ‘WKND‘ was the hugely successful track "Feel It" which features a sample that has also been used in the classic house music anthem "Can You Feel It" by Philippe B vs. Todd Terry.

Corsten heralds a new era of euphoric, uplifting electronic music in its purest form on "A Day Without Rain" featuring Ellie Lawson, her super-charged vocals bringing smiles of ecstasy to club-goers’ faces. The equally inspiring albeit slower tempo "Walk On Air" featuring Pierre In The Air & Amba Shepherd is also a glimmering jewel.

Not one to be constrained to the underground EDM scene – vast as it may be – Ferry Corsten tackles and conquers the mainstream with a series of pop radio-friendly songs that have "hit" written all over them. It’s impossible to choose a favorite between this many gems. Take the soaring, sunshine-y song, "In Your Eyes" featuring JES, or the immaculate, annihilating ballad that is "Not Coming Down" featuring Betsie Larkin, and both are winners. Corsten proves that, in the right hands, male vocals can be just as hook-y, as exemplified by the previously released hit single, "Check It Out", and the storming "Love Will", the latter featuring Duane Harden. Corsten ensures that pop radio will indeed come calling with the proper song construction of "Let You Go" featuring K’s Choice singer Sarah Bettens, the luscious sonic pleasures of "Live Forever" featuring Aruna, and the catchy electro-house track "Ain’t No Stoppin’" featuring Ben Hague.

In the cutthroat world of A-list producers, evolution and adaptability become the keys to longevity. To wit, Ferry Corsten has been requested by fellow A-listers for remix work, including by: U2, Moby, Duran Duran, Public Enemy, William Orbit, Nelly Furtado, Faithless, The Killers and many others. As an original artist, ‘WKND‘ marks Ferry Corsten’s fourth full-length artist album. Corsten’s previous studio albums were: ‘Twice In A Blue Moon‘ (2008), ‘L.E.F.‘ (2006) and ‘Right Of Way‘ (2003).

With two decades as a professional performer under his belt, many of Corsten’s compilations reflect his live sets at any given time.

His many compilations include, ‘Trance Nation‘, ‘World Tour‘ and ‘Passport‘, and more recently, installations one and two of the wildly popular ‘Once Upon A Night‘ series. ‘Once Upon A Night Volume 1‘ hit the #1 sales position on the iTunes Dance Chart (U.S.) within its first week of release.

Best-selling singles from Ferry Corsten have also been numerous over the years, and fans still clamor to hear them in a live setting. Those singles include: "Punk", "Gouryella" (with Tiësto), "Walhalla", "Cry", "Rock Your Body, Rock", "Fire" and countless more. Today, Ferry Corsten heads his own Flashover Recordings imprint, releasing his own music and that of other promising talent. Corsten’s weekly Corsten’s Countdown internationally syndicated radio show can be heard in more than 50 countries worldwide.

High-quality, full-length artist albums by EDM producers are few and far between. With ‘WKND‘, Ferry Corsten again raises the bar.
