What Aly & Fila did to Mumbai…
Pin ItRisen above the Sun!
The last time Submerge brought down Aly & Fila (February 2010), the excitement was palpable. Every EDM lover had no words to describe the energy, the atmosphere and the euphoria they felt after seeing Egypt’s biggest trance duo bring the roof down at the Blue Frog.
So with the second coming of Aly & Fila to promote their album ‘Rising Sun‘, the buzz was evidently a lot more prominent, everyone was slightly apprehensive as to whether they would match up to their previous gig in Mumbai. Let me tell you they were absolutely mind-blowing.
The opening set was done by none other than our very own Brute Force (Tuhin Mehta), who right from the word "go", took off. He started his set with some funky progressive beats, which made you want to just bounce around, moved on to some tribal and moved straight onto uplifiting. His energy on stage made even the people who were sitting around at the Blue Frog get up and dance. His heart and soul is in his DJing so when he’s up there dancing and DJing his heart out, you feel the energy running through your veins. One of the main highlights was when he played "Lost (Aly & Fila Remix)" and "Every Other Way"… the crowd, slowly building up, was going absolutely mad. Tuhin ended with "Man On The Run" and Aly & Fila took off from there.
Right from the word "go", Fila (Fadi) took you on a trance journey that would leave a lasting impression in your mind. His energy, the track selection, his mixes, were all so perfectly blended in together, you wouldn’t even believe that you were on your feet for 3 hours!
Tracks from their album like "Listening", "Rosaries" were a delight to listen to. Remixes of tracks such as "Out Of The Sky", "Back To You" were an emotionally uplifting experience. The energy of the crowd, the atmosphere and Fadi’s crowd interaction was almost a surreal experience.
Listening to Aly & Fila perform for the first time (since I did miss them the last time) was somewhat of a dream come true. I was apprehensive after hearing the rave reviews of their previous gig. But I was absolutely blown away by what a melodic, uplifting journey it was. There was never a moment that you felt you wanted to stop dancing and take a break. Every track that came on was almost a surprise, there were no exceptions; right till the point that when the crowd starting penning down tracks, and Fadi, being the humble, people person that he is, complied with all the tracks people wanted. The crowd was on their feet, dancing, singing along and completely charged up.
I obviously cannot compare the two gigs, as I was not present at the first one. However, I can tell you this. A gig with this much energy, this much crowd interaction is a fantastic experience. If you can’t ID all the tracks, (and this a good friend of mine told me), then it’s a brilliant set / gig. And I could’’t agree more. The Aly & Fila Rising Sun Album Tour was truly a memorable experience and you really did feel like you were "Out Of The Sky". :)
