1 Lounge, Koregaon Park, Pune

Well, to begin with, one would least expect a Thursday evening to be a day to party.

Maybe after attending this gig, all your inhibitions & assumptions will be wiped away.

The 23rd of September, 2010 hosted one of the finest EDM events the city of Pune has ever seen.

Yes, it began with DJ Garry who was the resident DJ of the club. DJ Garry built up and pumped in the energy the crowd required to welcome, for the very 1st time in Pune.

The countdown began, and as the ticker struck 1, the lights went out and all you get to hear is the haunting melody of a familiar track that gives you the goosebumps and then appears the man. Gareth Emery belted out popular tracks as heard on Armin van Buren’s radio series – A State Of Trance as well as Gareth’s own mixes from his Trance Energy set. Trance tracks like, "On A Metropolis Day", "Find Yourself", "Stranger (To Stability)", "Exposure" and "Sanctuary" which is also available on his latest album, ‘Northern Lights‘.

The club was equipped with spectacular visuals which added to influence the tunes had on this satisfied mob of people, while Gareth wrapped up the evening which obviously had the crowd asking for more. Azax Syndrome moved in and took the evening to a different dimension altogether. Thursdays have never been better as approx 750 happy feet grooving, stomping and most significantly contented with what this evening had to offer.

Now that this is through, Pune will look forward to more episodes and events that would remind us of this evening as it has etched a positive illustration in the minds of all the made this evening a stupendous success.

Signing off now.

The Blue Frog

We’ve attended many gigs at the Blue Frog, but this was one gig I was particularly waiting for since I found out about it. I came to Blue Frog with many aspirations of listening to certain tracks such as "Exposure", "Sanctuary" and especially "Arrival". Well we arrived at the venue, and then we saw the Blue Frog car entering. I was hoping Gareth would be inside and it was a relief to see him come out of the car. Luckily, there were not many people around and so I actually got an opportunity to click a picture with him. That completely set our mood for the night and we were all charged up.

The opening set was fantastic and the build-up to the main artist was very well done, but the wait was killing us. Finally, when Gareth started, we could feel the energy, the adrenaline and everyone started jumping, cheering and the atmosphere changed all together. He played many of my favourite tracks such as "C’mon", "Lonely Girl", "We Are One", "Satellite", etc. and along with these, he also played the tracks on my wishlist – "Arrival", "Exposure" and "Sanctuary". His set consisted of some of the latest tracks as well as some remixes of classic hits such as "Lethal Stadium Four". One absolute shocker was when he played "Airplanes", it was unexpected but it caught on really well with the moment.

When he finished his set, most of the people went outside but there were some enthusiastic people still wanting and shouting for more, and it was unbelievable that in spite of such a long gig, he played one last track. People from outside ran to the dance floor, and the place was packed again. This gig was one of the best I’ve attended and I can’t wait to see him again the Sunburn Festival in Goa.

Quantum

Delhi has not really been India’s main hub in the trance scene but that has changed to quite an extent ever since mid 2010 with performances from the likes of Ashley Wallbridge, Mark Pledger, Above & Beyond, Ned Shepard, Adam K, Aly & Fila, etc.

Gareth Emery’s gig was held in NCR’s leading night club Quantum. The warm up set was done by DJ Batuta and it was more on the techno side of EDM. It didn’t really get the crowd ‘warmed up’ so to speak.

Finally after 2 hours of techno torture, Gareth walked up to the CDJs and without any delay took off his jacket, put on his headphones and kicked off his set with a perfect banging set opener, "Tiësto vs. Diplo – C’mon" and pulled everyone to the dance floor. Now it felt like the party had started.

All tunes that Gareth dropped were his signature fusion of progressive trance and house, from his remix of "The Deep Devine" to "Citadel", from "Sanctuary" to "On A Metropolis Day", all choons made the crowd go crazy and the most awesome part was singing along and then jumping in the air, fist pumping when the break down hits.

One memorable moment I had was screaming like a little girl when I made the heart sign with my hands and Gareth pointed towards me and smiled. It was definitely a moment to be noticed by someone as awesome as Emery. We miss you already Gareth!

Chancery Poolside

Bangalore is any day the best city to attend a trance gig in India; I;m saying this because of the quality of people that come here to party… Music is more than a passion… they are not just ID junkies; people here actually know how to enjoy music. So when we heard that Submerge is getting down Gareth Emery, the whole community was up and waiting for this day. And wait; there wasn’t a better place to party but a wonderful pool side setting at Pebbles, Bangalore.

While Nikhil played his usual progressive house, we were all waiting for Gaz to just rip the roof here, err it is an open air party I just forgot :) anyways… Gareth Emery comes in starts of "Niton", the tune has some major energy. That just set the night for us… with one awesome track to another, he played "Arrival", "Citadel", "Sanctuary", "All Is Now" and the tune I wanted to listen to in a club "Fight The Sunrise" [What a tuneeeee] from his ‘Northern Lights‘ album.

There were some other awesome tracks he played like "Lonely Girl", "On A Metropolis Day", his mashup of "Stadium Four vs. Lethal industry", "Global" were also dropped and ended the set with "This Is That Silence" wow that was easily the best moment of the gig.

At the end of it all, really happy to see smiling faces and for Gareth Emery, he really knows how to make the crowd go wild. It was a great mix of commercial trance music and some tracks you would never dare play at a gig. Thanks Gaz, you will definitely be one of my favorite artists. Cheers!
